1. Vinpearl Nha Trang is not one hotel

Vinpearl Nha Trang is a group of places, not a single address. One company runs resorts, a theme park, a golf course and a shopping harbour across an island off the coast and along the beachfront in town, and all of it carries the same brand name.

That is where the confusion starts. Saying you booked Vinpearl Nha Trang does not tell anyone whether you are sleeping on the island or a five-minute taxi from the night market. One of those involves a cable car over the sea. The other does not.

The island is the famous part. Hon Tre is the largest island in Nha Trang Bay, and nearly every visitor facility on it was built by Vinpearl: the resorts, the VinWonders theme park, a golf course, and a Korean-style bathhouse.

People often use the brand as the place name. When someone says they are going to Vinpearl Island, they mean Hon Tre. Hon Tre is the island; Vinpearl is the company that developed it.

There is also Vinpearl in town

Two properties sit on Tran Phu, the beach road in central Nha Trang. Neither needs a cable car. You walk out of the lobby and you are in the city.

A third island, Hon Tam, has one more Vinpearl resort. It is a different island from Hon Tre and you reach it a different way.

The names keep moving

Vinpearl has renamed its Nha Trang properties several times in recent years. Some dropped a number and took a word instead. One left the brand entirely when another hotel company took over.

Booking sites and old blog posts still carry the earlier names, which is why searching turns up hotels that no longer exist under that label. There is a section further down that untangles it.

2. What sits where

The properties fall into three locations. Hon Tre island, the Tran Phu beachfront in town, and Hon Tam island.

Island properties need a cable car or a boat. In exchange the theme park and the beach are a short walk away, and the day tends to stay inside the resort grounds.

Town properties put you in the middle of Nha Trang. The beach is across the road and restaurants and shops are all around. You cross to the island only when you want the park.

Hon Tam is different again. It is a small island known for its mud baths, and far more people visit for the day than sleep there.

The list, side by side

The names run long and look alike, so they are easier to hold in a table than in a paragraph.

And one that is no longer Vinpearl

Hon Tre has a seventh resort that carries a different brand now. It used to be Vinpearl, and it gets its own section further down because the name change trips people up.

Everything else about it is unchanged. Same island, same cable car, same theme park next door.

Do not mix it up with Cam Ranh

There is a Vinpearl-branded resort down the coast in Cam Ranh, run with Melia. The name has no Nha Trang in it. A search for Vinpearl Nha Trang still brings it up.

Cam Ranh is where the airport is, roughly forty minutes to an hour from central Nha Trang by car, and in the opposite direction from Hon Tre. The cable car has nothing to do with it.

Being near the airport helps if you land late. It also means every trip into town is a car ride, and the perks Vinpearl gives island guests do not apply there.

3. Vinpearl Resort Nha Trang, the original

This was the first resort on Hon Tre. The island’s development started here, and it still holds a sheltered stretch of beach on the inner side.

The architecture follows the French colonial style Vietnam builds a lot of resorts in: white walls, dark timber, deep verandas. It reads differently from the newer buildings further along the shore.

Rooms face the sea as standard. The base room runs in the low thirties of square metres, the next grade up in the low forties with a balcony. Either takes three adults and a child, or two adults and two children.

For larger groups there are villas. The three-bedroom villa is around three hundred and seventy square metres across two floors, with a garden and its own pool. Beachfront villas are sold as a separate category.

What is inside

The outdoor pool is the headline. The resort describes it as one of the largest in Southeast Asia.

The spa runs under the Akoya name. There is a separate Imperial Club serving Chinese food and seafood, plus a bowling alley and karaoke, and conference and wedding space.

Breakfast runs from six in the morning to half past ten. Lunch is midday to two, dinner six to ten, and a few other outlets stay open until eleven at night.

Who it suits

It works if you plan to spend your days on the island. VinWonders is a short hop within the island, and dinner is covered without leaving the grounds.

It works less well if you want Nha Trang’s street food and night market. Every trip out means a cable car ride, and the evening runs against the last-cabin clock.

4. Vinpearl Resort & Spa Nha Trang Bay, the big one

This is the largest resort on the island. It has a hotel wing and a separate villa area, and the most beds of the three.

The main building curves in a long white arc. You come in along a road planted with bougainvillea, and the resort opens onto its own beach and a wide outdoor pool.

It sits closest to VinWonders. If the theme park is the reason for the trip, this is the shortest walk. Some rooms look straight at the park’s big wheel and castle.

Families make up much of the guest list, so there is a kids’ club, tennis courts and a beach club. Even the base room is around forty-five square metres with a balcony and a tub.

Plenty of villa types

Villas run from two bedrooms to four. Two-bedroom villas start around two hundred and thirty square metres, three-bedroom run around three hundred, four-bedroom over four hundred.

They split into beachfront and inland lagoon-facing, and the price follows. The larger ones have kitchens, which makes them workable for two families travelling together. The bigger villas sleep eight.

Restaurants and the beach club

Two restaurants open at six in the morning and close at ten at night. One runs a broad Vietnamese, European and Asian menu; the other is more casual.

The beach club runs from eleven in the morning until eleven at night, so you can sit out late. Of the three island resorts this is the one where the evening keeps going.

If you want quiet nights, the villa-only property described next is the better pick.

5. Vinpearl Luxury Nha Trang, villas only

No room blocks here, only villas. Around eighty of them sit scattered through tropical garden, each with its own pool.

The buildings follow Vietnamese traditional forms, with dark wood furniture and low roof lines. It feels noticeably different from the other two on the same island.

The smallest villa is around sixty square metres with one bedroom and either a garden or a pool. Beachfront villas run about seventy-five, duplex villas around a hundred and ten, and the largest in the mid-hundred-and-thirties.

Every villa has a jacuzzi and a generous balcony. Most are one-bedroom, which suits couples or a small family. Larger groups are better off in the villas at Nha Trang Bay.

The spa is built over the water

Akoya Spa is the signature here, laid out as huts standing above the sea, so you hear the water through the treatment.

The Wave Bar handles sunset cocktails. The pool bar runs daytime only.

Restaurant hours are tight

Breakfast is served from half past six until half past ten and no later. The main restaurant splits into midday to three and six to ten in the evening.

The Wave Bar opens at five in the afternoon and closes at ten, the pool bar runs ten in the morning to six, and the lobby bar eight in the morning to eight at night. There are gaps between those windows, so check ahead if you land at an awkward hour.

This is the most expensive of the three island properties. It is also the emptiest and the quietest.

6. The resort on Hon Tre that is no longer Vinpearl

Nha Trang Marriott Resort & Spa, Hon Tre Island used to be Vinpearl. It opened as Vinpearl Discovery 2, was renamed Vinpearl Discovery Sealink, and became a Marriott in October 2023.

By island standards it is large: somewhere around four hundred rooms and suites plus roughly four hundred villas, along a couple of kilometres of beach.

There are four restaurants and bars, seven pools, tennis courts, a gym, a spa, a kids’ club and a playground. The golf course is next door, which brings in a steady golf crowd.

The name changed but the geography did not. You can still ride the cable car in and VinWonders is still next door, and this resort also runs boats from its own pier on the mainland. What does not carry over are the Vinpearl stay perks, which apply to Vinpearl properties only.

Other names that moved

Vinpearl Discovery 1 became Rockside and Discovery 3 became Golflink. Neither appears on Vinpearl’s current property list, and on booking sites entering dates often turns up nothing available.

Hon Tam Resort changed too. Booking sites still print its former name, Merperle Hon Tam Resort, alongside the current one.

Why it happened

Vinpearl trimmed its portfolio, handed some properties to other hotel companies and relabelled others. That ran over several years, and booking sites have absorbed it to different degrees.

The practical effect is that older reviews describe hotels that now trade under different names. A post about staying at Vinpearl Discovery is about somewhere you cannot book under that name today.

7. The two in town

Vinpearl Beachfront Nha Trang is a tower on Tran Phu, the beach road. It is in the city, not on the island, so no cable car is involved.

The units are apartments. Studios run around forty-two square metres, two-bedroom units around sixty-three, and the larger two-bedroom layouts into the low eighties. The bigger ones take four adults and four children.

They come with kitchens, which suits long stays and anyone cooking for small children. This is also where Vinpearl’s Nha Trang prices start lowest.

There is retail in the building and a pool upstairs. Cross the road and you are on the sand. Rooms split into sea-facing and city-facing, and the price follows.

Breakfast runs from six to half past ten, and the other outlets from midday until half past nine at night.

Vinpearl Empire Nha Trang

The other town property is Vinpearl Empire Nha Trang, run in partnership with the Spanish hotel group Melia, which is why the full name is so long. Its address is on Le Thanh Ton, a block back from the beach road rather than on it.

This one is run as a hotel rather than apartments. There are deluxe rooms and one- and two-bedroom suites, the suites with wooden floors and large balconies, and some units come with a kitchenette.

It has a pool, restaurants, a bar and meeting space, and views that take in both the sea and the city skyline.

Rates start low for the area. If the island is only half a day of your trip, staying here and buying one cable car ride is a reasonable way to do it.

8. Hon Tam Resort, on the other island

Hon Tam is a different island from Hon Tre. It is another island in Nha Trang Bay, and Vinpearl runs the resort on it.

Accommodation mixes single-storey bungalows and villas. Some of the larger rooms inside three- and four-bedroom villas are sold separately, and they come with their own living area.

The island is better known for its mud baths. Thermal water mixed with mineral mud, in an outdoor bathing complex, and this is the only one of Nha Trang’s several mud bath sites that sits on an island.

Most people come for the day and leave. Staying over gives you time in the baths without the crowd, and the early evening after the day boats have gone.

Getting there works differently

There is no cable car to Hon Tam. You take a boat. The resort’s own packages leave from the Hon Tam pier, which sits beside the Vinpearl cable car station.

Tour operator packages usually leave from the Nha Trang tourist pier instead. Check which pier your booking uses, because the two are not close to each other.

The crossing takes under ten minutes. It is nearer than Hon Tre.

Doing both islands in one day is hard

No boat runs between the two. You come off one island, cross back to the mainland and start again.

Fitting both into one day means an early start and a rushed look at each. Splitting them across two days works better.

9. Getting to the island: the cable car

The normal way onto Hon Tre is a cable car that crosses the open bay. The mainland station is at Vinpearl Harbour, at the southern end of Tran Phu.

The ride takes around ten minutes. Each cabin holds twelve. Service runs from eight in the morning to ten at night, and the last cabin off the island leaves at 21:45. That time sets the outer edge of any evening spent over there.

A return ticket is 200,000 dong. You will not often buy one on its own, though: it is already inside a VinWonders ticket, and Vinpearl guests ride free. The standalone ticket is for people who only want the ride and the harbour.

The crossing opens up the whole bay, and plenty of people ride it for that alone. Late afternoon is the busiest stretch.

Strong wind stops it

It runs over open water, so high wind shuts it down. That happens now and then between September and December, the wetter months.

The call gets made on the day, so you cannot plan around it. If you are staying on the island in that season, a quick message to the resort the day before is worth the effort.

About the length

The line is a little over 2.6 kilometres. You will still see 3,320 metres quoted in plenty of places, including on some of Vinpearl’s own pages, but that figure describes the route before the mainland station moved to Vinpearl Harbour.

Sources disagree as a result. What does not change is the ride: around ten minutes either way.

Getting onto the island

1. Head to Vinpearl Harbour at the southern end of Tran Phu. Taxi or Grab from town.
2. Show your hotel confirmation or VinWonders ticket and board the cable car.
3. Around ten minutes over the water brings you to the island station.
4. Check the return time before you settle in. The last cabin off the island is 21:45.

10. When the cable car stops, there are boats

Speedboats cover the gap when the cable car is down or the queue is long. The island does not close. The way in changes.

Boats leave every thirty minutes and take twelve to fifteen minutes. They run from Nha Trang’s main harbour.

On a windy day the boats often still run, because the two are stopped by different things: the cable car by wind, the boats by swell.

Heavy seas will stop the boats too. If that happens while you have an island booking, call the resort. They handle moving guests and will tell you how.

When you have luggage

Staying on the island means carrying your bags through the cable car. Some resorts move luggage separately, so ask when you book.

With a pushchair or large cases, avoid the busy windows. The queues are longest when the theme park opens in the morning and when it closes at night.

Late arrivals

If your flight lands late, one option is a first night in town and the island the next morning. Cam Ranh airport to the city is around forty minutes by car.

After ten at night the cable car is finished for the day. Resorts can sometimes arrange a boat if you warn them, but late at night even that gets difficult.

11. What a Vinpearl stay includes

Staying at Vinpearl bundles in some of the island’s facilities. Exactly which ones depends on the rate you book, so this is worth checking before anything else.

The most common inclusion is VinWonders admission, usually as one day for everyone in the room during the stay. Bought separately that runs over a million dong per adult, so the difference is real.

The cable car is free as well. Vinpearl publishes it as two free rides per person per day, which covers going into town for a meal and coming back.

What else can be attached

Some rates include the Tata Show, an evening production at VinWonders, once for everyone in the room.

Some include Aquafield, the bathhouse, and those packages carry the return cable car with them.

Some give a hotel credit of 300,000 or 500,000 dong per room per night, spent at island restaurants and facilities, which in practice goes on food.

Some let up to two children under twelve stay free, breakfast included, without an extra bed.

How to check

These vary by rate and change with the season. The same room at the same property is often sold twice at different prices because one version carries the park ticket and the other does not.

The booking page always spells out what is included. Read that line before you pay, and ask the property directly if it is ambiguous.

12. What there is to do on the island

Hon Tre is not only resorts. A theme park, a bathhouse and a golf course all sit on it.

VinWonders is one of the larger theme parks in Vietnam. It splits into six zones and takes a full day. Rides, water park and aquarium are separate areas.

The aquarium holds more than thirty thousand marine animals. The mermaid show and the feeding sessions run to a timetable, and a lot of visitors plan their day around those.

The water zone closes earlier than the rest, at half past five, so if that is the point of the visit you need to be in during the morning.

Aquafield

Aquafield is a Korean-style bathhouse and sauna, the first of its kind in Vietnam. It opens from ten in the morning until ten at night.

The standard package is four hours at 400,000 dong. Bundled with the cable car it is 600,000, and with a full-body spa treatment it runs into the high one-million range.

It is a common stop after a day in the water. Being on the same island makes pairing it with VinWonders easy.

Golf and Vinpearl Harbour

Vinpearl Golf Nha Trang is an eighteen-hole course, 6,787 yards, par 71. Every hole is floodlit, so play continues after dark. The clubhouse restaurant seats a hundred.

Vinpearl Harbour is on the mainland side, not the island. The cable car station sits inside a complex of shops, restaurants and a plaza. Plenty of people go there without crossing at all.

13. Vinpearl Harbour, the side you can reach without a ticket

Vinpearl Harbour is on the mainland. Southern end of Tran Phu, where the cable car station is. It is the place you pass through on the way across.

It used to be just the station. Now there are shops, restaurants and a plaza around it, which gives people a reason to come without riding anywhere.

The mainland station moved here, and that move is why the cable car is shorter than the figure older sources quote.

A return cable car ticket includes access to the harbour area. Visitors who skip the theme park still use this side.

It fills up in the evening

The lights go on after dark. It is a different feel from the night market in town, and some people do both in one evening.

It sits at the southern end of the beach road, away from the centre. That is too far to walk comfortably, so most people take a taxi or a Grab.

If you are staying on the island

You will pass through every time you cross, in both directions.

If you have time on arrival day, ask whether you can leave bags and look around. Coming back out once you have settled on the island is more effort than it sounds.

14. What it costs

Prices split cleanly by location. Town is cheaper, island villas are dearer.

Below are the lowest nightly rates Vinpearl publishes. They move with the date and the season, so treat them as a sense of the range rather than a quote.

Inclusions change the real number

Picking on the headline rate alone will mislead you, because the same property sells rates with the park ticket and rates without.

Two adults through VinWonders for a day comes to more than two million dong. A rate that includes admission has already absorbed that.

Breakfast and the hotel credit work the same way. On the island there is nowhere else to eat, so breakfast included genuinely saves money.

Spending less

If the theme park is on the plan, take the rate that includes it. It usually lands cheaper than buying separately.

If the park is not on the plan, do the opposite. Skip the bundle, stay in town, and the accommodation cost roughly halves.

To stay on the island and keep food costs down, look at the villas with kitchens. There is nowhere convenient to shop on the island, so buy what you need before you cross.

15. Where you eat

On the island you eat at the resort. There are no local restaurants over there.

Each resort runs several outlets. Breakfast is buffet, lunch and dinner mix buffet and à la carte, and the properties with beach clubs or bars serve lighter food later.

Prices sit above town. Partly that is the island, partly it is that almost every customer is already a guest. Over several nights the gap adds up.

Eating in town instead

With two free cable car rides a day, one meal in town is easy enough to arrange. The harbour side has restaurants too.

It costs time, though. Cable car plus getting to the restaurant and back puts a couple of hours around a single meal.

Check whether breakfast is included

Rates are sold both ways. On the island there is nowhere to go out for breakfast, so if it is not included you are buying it on the spot.

Hotel credit, where a rate carries it, is spent here. It is issued per room per night and comes off the bill at the restaurant.

If you want a kitchen, look at the Beachfront apartments in town or the larger island villas. Villas from three bedrooms up generally have one.

16. Island or town

Choosing between the island and the beach road changes the whole trip more than anything else on this page. A day on the island and a day in town look quite different.

On the island the theme park and the beach are within walking distance. With children, cutting out the transport matters. Days get simpler because there is nowhere else to be.

The island beaches face into the bay, so the water is calmer and there are fewer people than on Tran Phu.

Against that, the city gets further away. Dinner in town means watching the last cabin, and a windy day rearranges the plan. Island restaurants cost more than town ones.

Staying in town

In town the restaurants, shops and massage places are all on foot. If Vietnamese food is part of why you came, this is the side to be on.

You can still do the island as a day trip. The park ticket carries the cable car, so it costs nothing extra.

The night market and the evening streets are also a town thing. You cannot be out late and sleep on the island.

Splitting the stay

Over several nights, doing both works. Two nights in town for the city, then across to the island to wind down.

It means moving bags once, but it saves repeated crossings. Line the island nights up with the theme park day and the whole thing tidies itself.

17. When to go

Nha Trang runs on two seasons. Drier from January through August, wetter from September through December.

That split matters more if you are sleeping on the island, because the wetter months bring the wind that stops the cable car.

Water activities follow the weather too. VinWonders keeps its water zone open year round, but an overcast windy day outdoors is not much fun.

Going in the wet months

A town hotel is the safer choice then, because nothing about your day depends on the cable car running.

If you do book the island, leave slack in the plan. Rather than pinning the theme park to one date, keep two candidate days and take whichever is clearer.

When it is busiest

Tet, the Vietnamese lunar new year, fills the whole island. Cable car queues stretch and room rates climb.

Summer brings the domestic crowd. That is also when the gap between weekends and weekdays is widest.

To miss the crush, ride the cable car early. Arriving slightly before the park opens makes for a short queue.

Coming back is the same problem in reverse. Everyone leaves when the park shuts, so head out half an hour early or eat on the island and cross late.

18. Why the names on booking sites look wrong

What booking sites show and what these places are called now often differ. The names changed, and the booking sites kept the old ones inside their web addresses.

Beachfront still has its old condotel label buried in its booking URL. Empire is the same. Hon Tam Resort is printed with its former Merperle name alongside the current one.

Search Discovery 2 and you land on Nha Trang Marriott. Search Discovery 3 and you get Golflink. The renaming is visible in the search results themselves.

How to be sure

The address is the reliable test. Hon Tre means the island. Tran Phu means town.

Photos help too. A cable car or wide gardens means island; a tower and a beach road means town.

Searching by the island name does not work

Booking sites file the island properties under Nha Trang. Search Hon Tre Island and the Vinpearl resorts mostly do not come up.

Searching the property name works better. The first two or three words are enough.

Be careful with reviews as well. Reviews written before a change stay attached, so you can end up reading about a hotel that a different company runs now.

19. Check these before you pay

A short list, in order. Vinpearl sells the same rooms at different rates with different inclusions, so two bookings at one property can give you quite different holidays.

Island or town

Read the address. Hon Tre means a cable car and a timetable. Tran Phu means neither.

Is VinWonders admission included

If it is, you do not buy it separately. Check whether it is one day or every day, and whether it covers everyone in the room.

How many free cable car rides

Vinpearl publishes two per person per day. If you plan to go back and forth, that number matters.

Is breakfast included

On the island this moves the real cost more than it looks, because there is no alternative. Check how children’s breakfasts are charged too.

Child policy

The free age and the number of children vary by rate. Check whether an extra bed comes with it and whether you need to show proof of age.

Arrival time

If you land late, check the cable car is still running. After ten at night you are not getting onto the island that day.

Luggage handling

Island resorts sometimes move bags for you. Asking in advance makes arrival day much easier.

20. Who it works for

Families do well on the island. The theme park is walkable and the water is calm, and with children, removing the transport from the day is worth a lot.

There are kids’ clubs and water facilities, and many rates carry free stays for younger children.

It also works if you want to stay put. The island resorts have restaurants, pools and spas, so a day can pass without leaving.

Golfers are better off on the island too. The course is there and it is floodlit, which puts evening rounds on the table.

Town suits other trips

If you came to eat your way through Nha Trang, stay in town. The island has no local restaurants.

Short trips belong in town as well. Over two or three days the crossings eat too much of the time.

Long stays are easier in town, where the apartments have kitchens and there are shops to use them with.

If you want quiet

On the island, the villa-only property is the quiet one, with the fewest guests and a private pool per villa.

It is also the most expensive. Quiet and price move together here.
