For almost everyone the answer is Grab or Xanh SM: open the app, walk to the ride-hailing lane just outside arrivals, and you’ll be in the city in 10–15 minutes for roughly 90,000–150,000 VND (US$3.50–6). Da Nang’s airport sits only about 3 km from downtown, so the ride is short, cheap and painless.

2. Da Nang Airport (DAD) in 2026: terminals & how central it is
Da Nang International Airport (DAD) is Vietnam’s third-busiest airport, and its best feature is location — it’s built right inside the city, roughly 3 km from the Han River. Two terminals sit side by side.
- Terminal 2 — international. Opened in 2017 for the APEC summit, 48,000 m² across four floors. It has held a 5-star Skytrax rating three years running (including 2026) — the only 5-star airport terminal in Vietnam — and DAD ranked 75th in the 2026 Skytrax World’s Top 100. An expansion broke ground in May 2026 and is due around May 2027, so expect construction works and longer queues at peak times until then.
- Terminal 1 — domestic. Flights to Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, Phu Quoc and beyond. It sits about 200 m from T2, but the two are not connected airside, so connecting between an international and a domestic flight means exiting one terminal and re-checking in at the other.
Because the airport is so central, almost every journey is short:
One 2025 change worth knowing: after the 1 July 2025 provincial merger, Hoi An is now administratively a ward of Da Nang City (it was previously in Quang Nam). Nothing changes for a visitor — it’s still the same ~45-minute drive south — but hotels, paperwork and maps may now say “Da Nang.” Planning the trip itself? 3. Where to catch Grab & Xanh SM: the ride-hailing lanes
Ride-hailing cars do not use the taxi rank — after you exit arrivals, turn right and walk about 50 m (3–6 minutes) to the zone signposted “Xe Công Nghệ” (“technology vehicles”). This is the single most useful thing to know at DAD.
- The app-car lanes: at the international terminal (T2) they’re around Lane 1–2; at the domestic terminal (T1) around pillars 2–3. Follow the “Xe Công Nghệ” signs rather than anyone who approaches you inside the hall.
- Xanh SM has its own staffed stand (commonly near Pillar 9), where you can walk up and take a green EV without even opening the app.
- Help if you need it: there’s a Grab help desk and free airport Wi-Fi at the zone, and a typical wait for an assigned car is 2–10 minutes.
- Metered taxis are elsewhere: the official 24/7 taxi rank is separate, outside arrivals near Gate A2.
💡 The free Wi-Fi lets you book a Grab before you even have a SIM. Whichever car you take, always match the plate and driver name in the app before you get in.
4. Grab from the airport (the default)
Grab is the easiest, most transparent way into town — you see the exact fare before you book, pay in the app, and there’s nothing to haggle over.
- Where to catch it: the “Xe Công Nghệ” ride-hailing lanes (Lane 1–2 at the international terminal, pillars 2–3 at the domestic terminal), not the taxi rank.
- What it costs: GrabCar runs on a meter — about 22,000 VND for the first 2 km, then ~11,000 VND/km, plus a ~30,000 VND airport fee. Most hotels are 5–8 km in, so in practice that’s roughly 90,000–150,000 VND to the centre, 100,000–130,000 VND to My Khe Beach, and 250,000–350,000 VND to Hoi An.
- Luggage: choose GrabCar 7 (7-seater) for a family or big bags. GrabBike is just 25,000–50,000 VND to the city if you’re solo with a daypack.
- Surge: a small night surcharge applies late, and rain or rush hour can push the total 1.5–2.5× — but the final price always shows in full before you confirm.

5. Xanh SM, Be & metered taxis
Grab isn’t your only option — Xanh SM is often the calmer choice, and the official metered taxis are fine too, as long as you use the staffed rank.
- Xanh SM — the bright-green VinFast electric taxis. The fare is fixed and transparent with no surge, the cars are clean and quiet, and there’s a staffed stand so you don’t even need the app. It runs about 90,000–140,000 VND to the city and is the best pick for a late-night arrival. You can even pre-book an airport Xanh SM together with a Vietjet flight.
- Be — a Vietnamese ride app with similar fares, but it has fewer drivers in Da Nang and usually needs a Vietnamese phone number to sign up, so for most visitors it’s a backup rather than a first choice.
- Metered taxis — the official 24/7 rank at Gate A2 has trusted firms: Mai Linh (green) and Vinasun (white), plus local Tien Sa and Da Nang Taxi. Expect about 100,000–160,000 VND to the city on a fair meter, roughly on par with Grab. Insist the meter is on, and pay mostly in cash.

6. Private transfer & hotel shuttle
Sometimes it’s worth a little more to have a driver waiting at arrivals with your name on a board — especially late at night or with a family.
- Private airport transfer (booked online in advance): a meet-and-greet driver, a fixed price, and a car sized to your group, with a child seat on request. Roughly US$8–15 to the city and US$15–25 straight to Hoi An. Ideal for late arrivals, families, heavy luggage, or a door-to-door Hoi An run.
- Hotel shuttle: free at some upper-tier resorts, or for stays of two nights or more if you arrange it ahead; otherwise it’s usually priced like a private car. Worth confirming the cost, since a Grab is often cheaper unless the shuttle is complimentary.

The honest truth about the bus: there’s no practical tourist airport bus. The cheap Yellow Bus #1 (Da Nang ↔ Hoi An, ~30,000 VND) and route LK02 both run from city-centre stops, not the terminal. From the airport itself, the only budget route to Hoi An is a shared shuttle van (~150,000–250,000 VND per person, 60–90 minutes with stops).
8. Airport → Hoi An (the big one)
Hoi An is about 30 km / 45 minutes south of the airport — now a ward of Da Nang since the 2025 merger, but the same easy coastal drive. Map
- Grab / Be car: ~250,000–350,000 VND (US$10–14) — the cheapest option if you’re happy to book on arrival.
- Xanh SM: a clean, fixed-fare EV run, ~350,000–450,000 VND.
- Metered taxi: ~300,000–450,000 VND from the official rank.
- Private transfer (pre-booked): ~US$15–25 with a driver waiting at arrivals — the smoothest choice after a long flight or a late arrival, and easy to split across a family or group.
- Shared shuttle van: ~150,000–250,000 VND per person, the budget route direct from the airport.

10. Your first 30 minutes after landing
Plane to curb at DAD is usually 30–45 minutes — here’s the exact flow so you glide through it.
- Immigration. Use the manual foreign-passport counters; the automated e-gates aren’t for ordinary tourists. Have your passport ready — plus an e-visa or approval letter only if your nationality needs one (many, including the UK and most of the EU, get 45-day visa-free entry). Queues run longer during the Korea and China flight banks. Note the Digital / Pre-Arrival Card is mandatory at Ho Chi Minh City, Hanoi and Phu Quoc but not yet at Da Nang as of mid-2026, though a nationwide rollout is coming — check prearrival.immigration.gov.vn before you fly.
- Baggage claim on the ground floor of the international terminal.
- Cash. Use an ATM near the exit — there are none inside the immigration zone, and they give a better rate than the exchange desks. Withdraw a larger amount to spread the fixed fee, and change only enough for your first day.
- Get online. Buy a local SIM at a counter (bring your passport; ~100,000–200,000 VND), or — far easier — arrive with a travel eSIM already installed so Grab and maps work the second you land.
- Ride out. Follow the “Xe Công Nghệ” signs to the ride-hailing lanes, or the official metered rank at Gate A2 — never anyone who approaches you inside the hall.

11. Avoiding taxi scams at the airport
Da Nang is an easy, friendly landing, but arrivals has the same handful of traps as any big airport — and every one is easy to sidestep.
⚠️ Watch for: touts inside the hall quoting a flat, inflated “fixed price” (sometimes 3–5× the real fare); drivers who claim the meter is broken or try to renegotiate mid-trip; rigged fast meters in unofficial or copycat-branded cars; and the “let me show you the Grab price on my phone” trick. The fix is simple — book on your own phone with Grab, Xanh SM or Be, or take an official metered taxi from the staffed rank, match the plate and driver, and never follow someone offering a ride away from the marked lanes.

12. Flying out: check-in times & the terminal
On the way home, arrive about 3 hours before an international flight and 2 hours for a domestic one — DAD is busy and under expansion, so queues build at peak hours.
- Check-in opens 3 hours before an international departure and closes ~50–60 minutes before. From Hoi An, leave about 4 hours before an international flight to cover the ~1-hour drive plus a buffer.
- Airside in T2 you’ll find duty-free (Lotte), cafés (Highlands, Starbucks, Burger King) and the CIP Orchid Lounge — after security, turn right and go up one floor to the mezzanine.
- Double-check your terminal: domestic flights leave from T1 and international from T2, and the two aren’t linked airside, so give yourself time if you’re connecting.
13. Where to stay: beach or riverside?
Because everything sits so close to the airport, where you stay is about the vibe you want, not the commute.
- The beach (My Khe / An Thuong): wake up to the sea, stroll to cafés and seafood, about 15 minutes from the airport. Best for a resort-style holiday.
- Riverside & centre (Han River): steps from the Dragon Bridge, night markets and restaurants, about 10 minutes from the airport. Best for nightlife and a city feel.
