The Dragon Bridge (Cầu Rồng) is Da Nang’s signature sight — a 666-metre golden dragon arching over the Han River that, every weekend, actually breathes fire and shoots water. The show is free, lasts a few minutes, and draws a happy crowd to the riverbanks every Friday, Saturday and Sunday night. This guide covers exactly when it happens, the best places to watch (and where you’ll get splashed), what to expect from the fire-then-water sequence, how to get there, and what else is worth seeing nearby. (Planning your evenings? See our complete Da Nang guide and 3–4 day itinerary.)

1. The Dragon Bridge Show: The Essentials
On Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights at 9:00 PM, the head of Da Nang’s Dragon Bridge breathes fire — a couple of minutes of flames — and then sprays jets of water over the river. It’s a short, free, crowd-pleasing spectacle, and one of the city’s must-dos after dark.
- Free: there’s no ticket — just turn up at the riverbanks or walk onto the bridge.
- Weekends only: the fire/water show runs three nights a week, not daily.
- Short and sweet: the whole thing lasts only a few minutes, so be in position by 8:55 PM.
2. When Is the Fire Show? (Times)
Here’s the schedule and what actually happens, in order:
| When | What happens | Roughly |
|---|---|---|
| Fri, Sat & Sun, 9:00 PM | Fire: the dragon breathes flames in several bursts | ~2 minutes |
| Right after the fire | Water: the dragon sprays jets of water | ~3 bursts |
| Every night (no fire) | Colour-changing LED light display | All evening |
The fire comes first, so don’t wander off once the flames stop — the water spray follows moments later.
3. Where to Watch: Best Viewing Spots
The dragon’s head is at the east (beach-side) end of the bridge, and the fire and water shoot out toward the river — so position matters:
🔥 Near the head
The east end of the bridge walkway is closest to the flames — and within reach of the water spray. Most thrilling.
🌃 The riverbanks
Bạch Đằng street (west bank) gives the full side-on view of the whole dragon — great for photos.
🍹 Rooftop & river cruise
Riverside rooftop bars and Han River dinner cruises offer a relaxed, elevated view.
| Spot | View | Best for |
|---|---|---|
| Bridge walkway (east, near head) | Up close to fire & water | Thrill-seekers, families with kids |
| West riverbank (Bạch Đằng) | Whole dragon, side-on | Photos & the classic shot |
| Rooftop bar / boat cruise | Elevated, relaxed | A drink with the show |

4. Fire Then Water: What Actually Happens
The sequence is always the same, and knowing it helps you film it:
- 1. Fire: the dragon’s head roars and shoots real flames in several bursts for about two minutes — you can feel the heat from the walkway.
- 2. Water: moments later, the head sprays jets of water out over the river (and onto anyone standing near it).
- 3. Done: the crowd claps, the bridge reopens to traffic, and the riverside night carries on.
5. The Bridge Itself: A Golden Dragon
Even without the show, the Dragon Bridge is a landmark worth seeing:
- The design: a 666-metre steel dragon in the style of the Lý dynasty, arcing over the Han River with its head raised toward the sea.
- Opened: 29 March 2013, to mark the anniversary of Da Nang’s liberation — it quickly became the city’s symbol.
- Lights: thousands of LEDs light the dragon every night, cycling through colours.
6. Getting There & Timing
The Dragon Bridge is right in the centre, spanning the Han River, so it’s easy to reach:
- By ride app or taxi: a Grab from most hotels is just a few minutes — ask for Cầu Rồng or the Bạch Đằng riverfront.
- On foot: if you’re staying near the river or in the centre, it’s a pleasant evening walk along Bạch Đằng.
- When: arrive by 8:30 PM on a Fri/Sat/Sun. The bridge closes to traffic before the show, so the walkway fills up fast.

7. What’s Nearby
Make an evening of it — there’s plenty within a short walk:
- The Carp-Dragon statue (Cá Chép Hóa Rồng): a graceful marble carp turning into a dragon on the east bank, beautifully lit — a 5-minute walk from the bridge.
- The Love Bridge (Cầu Tình Yêu): a small lantern-lit pier beside the statue, hung with love-locks.
- Riverside night market & cafés: street food and a buzzy atmosphere along the banks — see our Da Nang food guide.
8. Tips & Combine It with Your Trip
A few last things to make the night go smoothly:
- Be in place by 8:55 PM — the show is short and won’t wait.
- Near the head = splash zone — fun, but cover your phone for the water part.
- Don’t confuse it with the fireworks: the nightly dragon show is different from the big annual Da Nang International Fireworks Festival (DIFF) — though both light up the Han River.
- Pair it with a riverfront dinner, then a stroll, then the show — see how it slots into our Da Nang itinerary.
