Da Nang is the ideal base for central Vietnam: a long beach, a walkable riverfront, and three UNESCO sites plus the famous Golden Bridge all within a short drive. This is the exact 3-to-4-day plan we give friends — what to do each day, in what order, with realistic timings, costs and a tip box linking to our in-depth guide for every stop. Use it as-is or mix and match.

1. How many days do you need in Da Nang?

Three days is enough to hit the headline sights (city + Ba Na Hills + Hoi An). Four days is the sweet spot — it adds the Marble Mountains and Son Tra without feeling rushed. Five or more lets you add a UNESCO day trip to My Son or Hue over the Hai Van Pass.

Below is the day-by-day version of the 4-day plan; if you only have 3 days, simply skip Day 4 (or merge the Marble Mountains into the morning of your Hoi An day).

2. Your Da Nang itinerary at a glance

Here is the whole plan on one screen. Each day is built around one area so you’re not zig-zagging across the region.

3. Day 1 — Arrival, the beach & the city

Day one is about landing softly, beating jet lag with sea air, and getting your first taste of the city after dark.

Morning — land & settle in

Da Nang’s airport (DAD) is a 10–15 minute ride from the beach hotels — one of the shortest airport-to-beach hops in Asia. Grab a taxi or a ride app; our airport-to-city transfer guide has the real prices so you don’t overpay on arrival. Drop your bags, then walk straight to My Khe Beach.

Afternoon — beach + the riverfront

Swim or laze on My Khe (calmest April–September), then head to the Han River waterfront in the late afternoon when it cools down. Stroll past the Dragon Bridge and the Love Bridge, and grab a Vietnamese iced coffee.

Evening — seafood & the Dragon Bridge

Have a fresh seafood dinner (see our Da Nang food guide for the best dishes and where to eat), then time your night for the Dragon Bridge fire show — it breathes real fire and water every Saturday, Sunday and holiday at 9 pm. If your trip lands on the DIFF fireworks festival (usually summer), build your evenings around it.

4. Day 2 — Ba Na Hills & the Golden Bridge

Give Ba Na Hills a full day — it’s a 45-minute drive inland plus one of the world’s longest cable cars, and there’s far more up top than the famous bridge.

Morning — up the mountain

Leave by 8 am to beat the crowds and the midday heat. Ride the record-breaking cable car up to the Golden Bridge (the giant stone hands), then explore the French Village, the flower gardens and the cathedral in the clouds.

Afternoon — Fantasy Park & views

Evening — back to the coast

Return to Da Nang for a relaxed riverside dinner. Note that Ba Na sits at altitude and can be cloudy or wet even when the coast is sunny — check our Da Nang weather guide and pick the clearest day of your trip for this.

5. Day 3 — Hoi An Ancient Town

The UNESCO-listed Ancient Town is only 35–45 minutes south and is the highlight of central Vietnam for many visitors. Go for the day and stay into the evening when the lanterns come on.

Morning — the Ancient Town

Wander the lantern-strung old streets, the Japanese Covered Bridge and the assembly halls (buy the heritage ticket). Mornings are cooler and far less crowded.

Afternoon — tailors, cafés or the beach

Get clothes tailor-made (24-hour turnaround), sip coffee by the river, or cycle out to An Bang Beach for a couple of hours.

Evening — lanterns & the night market

6. Day 4 — Marble Mountains & Son Tra Peninsula

Your last full day stays close to Da Nang and ties together the city’s nature and spirituality — both stops are 10–20 minutes from the beach.

Morning — Marble Mountains

Climb (or take the elevator up) the limestone peaks honeycombed with cave temples, shrines and a coastal viewpoint. Entry is cheap (~40,000 VND); go early before it heats up. See our Marble Mountains guide.

Afternoon — Son Tra & the Lady Buddha

Head to the Son Tra Peninsula — jungle roads, ocean viewpoints, rare red-shanked douc langurs and Vietnam’s tallest statue, the 67 m Lady Buddha at Linh Ung Pagoda (free).

Evening — sunset & a farewell dinner

Catch sunset from Ban Co Peak or the beach, then a final seafood dinner in the city.

7. Got 5 days? The best day trips to add

With a fifth day, central Vietnam opens up. Two standout options:

• Hue over the Hai Van Pass: the cinematic mountain road made famous by Top Gear, then the old imperial capital — Citadel, royal tombs and riverside food. Do the pass by private car, jeep or backseat motorbike: our Hai Van Pass guide covers every option.

Otherwise, a fifth day is perfect for simply slowing down: more beach, a spa, a cooking class, or the cafés and markets you didn’t get to.

8. Plan it right: stay, money, getting around & when to go

A few decisions make the whole trip smoother:

• Da Nang or Hoi An? Base in Da Nang for the beach and easy transport; choose Hoi An only if the lantern town is your main goal.
