Good news: Da Nang International Airport (DAD) is one of the most central airports in Asia — barely 3 km from the riverfront and beaches, so your transfer is short and cheap. This guide covers getting to the city, the beach, Hoi An and Ba Na Hills, the Grab-vs-taxi question, and exactly what to do in your first 30 minutes. (New to the city? Start with our complete Da Nang guide.)

1. Da Nang Airport (DAD): The Basics
DAD handles both international and domestic flights from two adjacent terminals, a short walk apart.
- Location: right inside the city — about 3 km from the Han River and 3–4 km from My Khe beach.
- Terminals: International Terminal (newer) and Domestic Terminal, side by side.
- In arrivals: SIM/eSIM counters, ATMs and currency exchange, plus official taxi and ride-hailing pickup areas.
2. Airport → City Centre & My Khe Beach
It’s a 10–15 minute hop. Your options:
| Option | Price (2026) | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Grab car | ≈ 70,000–120,000 VND ($3–5) | Cheapest & easiest; fixed price in-app |
| Metered taxi (Mai Linh, Vinasun) | Similar, ≈ 80,000–130,000 VND | Use official ranks, insist on the meter |
| Hotel airport pickup | Varies (often 250,000 VND+) | Convenient but usually pricier |
3. Airport → Hoi An & Ba Na Hills
Heading straight to Hoi An or the mountains? Easy from DAD:
- To Hoi An (~45 min, ~30 km): a private car or Grab runs ~350,000–450,000 VND ($14–18). Shared shuttles are cheaper if you don’t mind stops. Full details in our Hoi An guide… or jump to the Hoi An guide.
- To Ba Na Hills (~45 min): easiest as a pre-booked car or day tour; see our where-to-stay guide if you’re basing near the action.

4. Grab vs Taxi at the Airport
- Grab (recommended): fixed price, no language barrier, GPS-tracked. After you book, walk to the signed ride-hailing pickup area (not always the front curb) and match the plate.
- Official metered taxi: fine too — use the marked Mai Linh / Vinasun / Tien Sa ranks and make sure the meter is running.
- Avoid touts who approach you inside the terminal offering a “taxi” — they overcharge. Stick to the app or the official rank.
5. Your First 30 Minutes on Arrival
- Data: grab a SIM at the Viettel/Vinaphone counter, or just activate the eSIM you bought beforehand — see our Vietnam eSIM & SIM guide.
- Cash: withdraw VND from an arrivals ATM (better rate than the exchange desks). Watch the look-alike notes — our scams guide explains the currency mix-up.
- Ride: open Grab, set your hotel, and head to the pickup area.
6. Departure: Check-in Times & Terminals
- International flights: arrive about 2.5–3 hours before departure; check in at the International Terminal.
- Domestic flights: ~2 hours is plenty; Domestic Terminal next door.
- Getting back to DAD: from the city it’s the same short 10–15 minute Grab ride — leave the city with time to spare during rush hour.
7. Arrival: Your First 30 Minutes at DAD
Da Nang Airport (DAD) is small and central, so arrival is quick. Do these four things in order:
- Immigration: have your e-visa printout or approval ready; lines are usually short.
- Data: grab a SIM at a counter or activate a pre-bought eSIM — you’ll need it for ride apps and maps.
- Cash: use a bank ATM in the hall rather than the airport currency desks, which give poorer rates.
- Ride: book a Grab or Xanh SM from the app pickup area — the city centre is only 10–15 minutes away.
8. Departure: Timing, Check-in & Lounges
Heading home? DAD is efficient, but plan your buffer:
- Arrive ~2 hours before a domestic flight, ~3 hours international — security and immigration can bottleneck at peak times.
- Eat before security: airside dining is limited, so grab a meal landside or in town first.
- Lounges are available for business class and Priority Pass holders if you want to wait in comfort.
- Last-minute gifts? Pick up coffee, cashews or dried fruit before you go through — the airside selection is thin and pricey.
